How much should you pay for business headshots?

If you’re thinking of getting a business portrait done, you’ve probably found out that, in Toronto, the price ranges from about $50 to over $1,000. Why is there such a wide price range?

Why does the price of running shoes range from $20 to over $300? Why does the cost of a men’s haircut in Toronto range from $8 to about $450? Why does a Toronto hamburger cost anywhere from $1 to $100?

The magic phrase is: you get what you pay for.

When it comes to professional photography, a higher price means that you get more and you get better: better advice, more attention to detail, better editing, better technical quality, better artistic quality and more experience. All these combine to give you a more reliable and more effective outcome.

Do you always need to choose the highest price? Not necessarily. It depends on your goals.

If you don’t really care about getting top quality results or you think that any headshot is better than nothing, then hire the cheapest photographer. In this case, you probably just want the lowest-priced photo to fill an empty space on a web page. You’re not concerned what others might think of you.

But if you value good, if you need a portrait that will succeed in its business function, if you require a portrait that will make a good impression on your customers, then you will have to hire a photographer who charges more. Remember that “charges more” simply means “delivers more.”

Some people have hamburger tastes and others prefer filet mignon. Neither is right or wrong. But you will never get the latter for the price of the former.

Choosing a corporate photographer for business portraits depends on your business goals and your company image. It depends on what price you put on yourself.

Totally agree with you. It is a pity only that customers do not understand this, and then still go to more expensive, paying twice.
