Retouching Business Conference Photos

Most business conference photos need editing to fix at least the colour and contrast. Hotel conference rooms with a mix of room lights, spotlights, and accent lights, can have an odd colour cast. There’s also too much contrast between the dark conference room and the stage lights and bright screens.

Photo retouching isn’t just for portraits. Retouching is almost always necessary for any picture that’s going to be used in a newsletter, an annual report, or any similar business publication, in print or online. Properly edited pictures always make your project look more professional.

Photo Retouching Makes You Look Good

Here’s a vinyl banner on the side of a large van belonging to a company that makes and installs glass shower enclosures. The centre photo shows a shower stall with blue masking tape from the installation. The shower on the right has reflections of a nearby window. All three photos are crooked and distorted.

Today I saw a big, shiny van belonging to a company that makes and installs glass showers. The sides of the van had large photos of glass-enclosed showers. But apparently no one bothered to look at the pictures before they were printed on vinyl and attached to the sides of the vehicle.

I’ve retouched a lot of business portraits, a few actor headshots and even some family portraits. Common retouching requests include removing stray hairs, brightening eyes and teeth, minimizing facial wrinkles, eliminating double chins, fixing skin issues, and repairing clothing malfunctions.

Retouching Business Headshot Selfies

Before cellphone cameras, if you wanted a selfie, you had to use a real camera. This picture is from 1991 when bungee jumping without a second safety harness was thought to be safe. The camera was duct-taped to my hand so I couldn’t drop it.

This is another view-from-my-office photo.

Is it common for a company to require its employees to supply their own business headshots? Most of these self-supplied headshots are, of course, cellphone selfies.

Retouching Family Photos

Family photos can be retouched to remove blemishes and other distractions. Colour and tone can be enhanced to make the a photo look its best.

Imperfections and distractions in family photos aren’t often a big deal and can be easily overlooked. But if a picture is going to be printed large and hung on a wall then you might consider photo retouching to fix any technical errors, remove blemishes and enhance the image to look its best.

Retouching Business Photos

Most business images can benefit from retouching. The Before photo was made quickly during a factory tour using only the overhead fluorescent lights. Retouching fixed the colour and the bad lighting.

People sometimes confuse photo retouching with the generic term “airbrushing.” A person will often ask that their picture be airbrushed when they really mean they want technical errors fixed (e.g. too light, too dark, bad colour, etc.), distractions removed, the background changed, a building straightened, etc.
