Sometimes a photographer accidentally cuts off part of a scene. Maybe they were rushing, or maybe the composition just didn’t come together in the moment.
Losing an important detail can feel like a disaster, especially when there’s no chance to reshoot. Fortunately retouching can often reconstruct what’s missing.

The dimensions of the above photo were increased to allow for the creation a full shadow. This makes the composition feel complete and adds a stronger sense of drama. Compared to the original, with its cut-off shadow, overexposure, and muted colours, the retouched version tells a more compelling story.
Rebuilding Balance And Symmetry

This second photo feels unfinished because the wedding dress and window shutters were cut off.
The outer shutters were accurately recreated by copying the inner shutters.
AI was used to create the bottom dress edge because there was no similar reference image. It may not be perfectly accurate but it blends seamlessly and no one would notice the difference.
The final retouched wedding photo has a nice symmetrical composition which gives the image stronger visual impact.
Refining The Scene

In this example, restoring the missing corner of the stained glass window improves the composition. The front door was closed to eliminate background distractions from inside the church and to enhance symmetry.
Straightening the image, correcting colour, and removing distractions, make the photo look cleaner and more intentional. The bridal couple now stands clearly at the centre of attention.
Photo retouching doesn’t just fix mistakes, it restores moments. By reconstructing missing details and refining composition, retouching helps preserve memories the way they were meant to be seen.
