Real Estate Exteriors In Poor Weather

This house was photographed under an overcast sky about one hour before sunset on a windy, rainy, late autumn day. The photography couldn’t be rescheduled for a nicer day due to the location and availability of the house and the late time of year.

Photography of real estate exteriors is best done when the weather and sunlight are both perfect. But it’s not usually possible to wait for ideal conditions.

It’s never a good idea to photograph a property during a storm or other bad weather. But exterior photography can happen as long as the conditions are at least reasonable. This photography will be done knowing that retouching will be required. Retouching can make the best of an image shot under poor conditions but it won’t match perfect light and perfect weather.

Photographed under a cloudy grey sky in late September. The photography could not be rescheduled due to the limited availability of the house.

Professional photographers know how to shoot pictures destined for retouching. They know how to compensate for possible sky replacement. They can shoot a single view in multiple sections to allow for exposure blending.

Exterior real estate photography can be done under less than ideal conditions as long as the customer is aware of the limitations and doesn’t require perfect conditions. Photo retouching can make these pictures look very good but not necessarily perfect.
