Retouching Business Headshots

Prison mugshots from Kingston Penitentiary in Ontario, 1913. (Library and Archives Canada)

I’ve retouched a lot of business portraits, a few actor headshots and even some family portraits. Common retouching requests include removing stray hairs, brightening eyes and teeth, minimizing facial wrinkles, eliminating double chins, fixing skin issues, and repairing clothing malfunctions.

A portrait that doesn’t need any retouching can be produced by a skilled photographer and a good makeup artist. But generally almost all business portraits can benefit from retouching. In fact, many portraits need retouching.

It all depends on how discerning you are. Some people don’t worry about how they look while other folks want a polished professional appearance that will make a good first impression.

Prison mugshot or executive business portrait? A bit of retouching can help you make a better impression.

If you want more than a mugshot then start with a professional photographer and finish with professional retouching. Photo retouching of business headshots is about polishing and enhancing what’s been captured in the photo.
