Hand Retouching In Portraits

Hand retouching is not really a thing for portraits because hands aren’t usually a noticeable feature in the photo. But hand retouching can be important when hands are prominently featured. For example, in portraits where a hand is positioned near the face, or in wedding photos that show a close-up of hands.

Hand retouching typically includes reducing the appearance of prominent veins, smoothing out distracting wrinkles or creases, and cleaning up visible imperfections like scratches or dirt. Fingernail touch-ups are also common, particularly for acrylic nails, which may need to be filled or repaired. In some instances, reshaping a finger may be necessary to improve the shape of the hand.

Retouching of skin always includes adjusting colour, evening out tone, and removing any distracting blemishes.

Hand retouching is a routine task in commercial photography where a hand is the focal point.
